In 1966, the Decaturville Pentecostal Church had its beginning with a small group of people meeting in the Utah community of Decatur County. Even in the church's infancy, the call to put His Kingdom First resonated in Pastor Ed Cottrell's heart and believers' hearts as they searched for a place to build a permanent church building. By God's provision, in September 1967, the land at our present location was purchased. Construction soon began, and DPC was born.
Following Pastor Ed Cottrell, the mantle of DPC leadership was passed on to the dedicated care of Pastors Gib Mayo, Elton Barker, Raymond Roach, Jimmy Mustain, Larry Blackwell, Welvon Mayo, and then to the current pastor, Brent Mayo. Under the guidance of Pastor Gib Mayo, God continued to bless and grow the congregation.
In 1978, construction began on the present sanctuary. The determination of the Members to put His Kingdom First was demonstrated through the fact that much of the work was done by themselves, and at one point, they raised and sold pigs to fund the construction of the new sanctuary.
Brother Welvon Mayo assumed the pastorate of DPC in April 1988 and served for 34 years. His leadership has seen the addition of connecting parcels of land and the construction of additional facilities creating the multi-use campus that DPC is today. That same dedication to the spiritual growth of DPC is easily felt as we experience the life-changing presence of God that is cultivated here. Pastor Mayo’s belief in putting His Kingdom First is reflected in the many ministries that operate here and those with the roots of their founding in DPC.
Brother Welvon Mayo transitioned into the role of bishop, and Brother Brent Mayo became pastor in June 2022. We continue to prioritize His Kingdom and are in a continual state of growth.
